Otis R. Benson was a quiet American patriot. He was born in central Alabama in 1916. He had to quit high school before graduation to support his mother and three younger brothers. He spent his life working hard, supporting his family and serving his Lord. After World War II he opened, owned and operated a hardware, variety and furniture store in Birmingham, Alabama. He was active in his church and served in many capacities, including as a deacon at Wylam Baptist Church and West Wood Baptist Church. He was highly respected by the community as a man of highest character and integrity and as a kind and gentle man. He was married to the love of his life, Willie Benson for 56 years. They had two sons, both of whom grew up and became productive members of society. He went home to be with the Lord in July, 1996. He was not famous and as time goes by will be forgotten by all but his family. However, he is part of the solid rock foundation upon which America is built, and men like him are the reason this is the greatest nation in the world.
