1 LT Kevin J. Zrenda, Army National Guard (Old Lyme, Connecticut) My husband, like many, joined the Army National Guard after 9/11. He is a natural leader and those he had worked and served with often comment on his unflappable character. He consistently uphold the character and values Jesus modeled which sometimes means speaking the truth despite what is conventional or popular at the time. His love for Christ and people is evident in his heart of servitude and belief that we are called to be the "light" of a darkened world. When he volunteered for a tour in Afghanistan, he wrote this to a local US newspaper: “God Bless America for having the families, men and women willing to “carry the light into the darkness.” It will take some time here for things to change. But as long as America does not take back her torch from the poor here in Afghanistan, then I know that “the darkness will not overcome it.” Though he would never think he is deserving of any accolades for doing his job and following a higher calling, going above and beyond has earned him Distinguished Soldier Award, a NATO metal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and an American flag flown in his honor at the Capitol. Needless to say, our family is very proud of him in all the roles that he takes on with godly conviction and fervor- son, father, husband, soldier, follower and lover of Jesus Christ. This light shines bright. Nominated By Alora Zrenda |
