Carter Braxton (Deceased Buried in Virginia) Carter Braxton was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and one of my forefathers. He was born Sept. 10, 1786 in Newington, Va. the son of George Braxton a wealthy plantation owner and his mother was the daughter of Robert Carter, one time president of the King's council for Virginia. He was educated at William and Mary College. He had 16 children. He was a Virginia delegate to the continental congress and signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. He was active and influential in legislature periodically from 1777 until Oct.6, 1797. He died Oct. 10, 1797, four days after the close of his last term of public office. He lost all his wealth from his plantations and shipyards due to his involvement for our independence. He was a real patriot. Nominated By Mary Braxton Elarbee |
